The Mardi Himal Trek is among the shortest and least demanding treks in Nepal, yet it offers panoramic Himalayan views from numerous vantage points along the route. Situated in the central Annapurna region, this trek is well-suited for travellers seeking a rewarding mountain experience without undertaking an extended or highly challenging journey. The Mardi Himal Trek usually begins from Kande, a small village near Pokhara at an elevation of about 1,720 meters above sea level. From there, trekkers follow a beautiful ridge trail through forests and villages before reaching Mardi Himal High Camp, which lies at around 3,550–3,580 meters.
From Kande to High Camp, most trekkers take around 3 to 4 days of walking, depending on pace and overnight stops such as Forest Camp and Low Camp. A whole trek (including return via Sidhing or a viewpoint/base camp hike) commonly takes 3 to 5 days, though some itineraries are longer for a more relaxed experience. This trek is considered easy to moderate. While it is suitable for many age groups, trekkers should still have a basic fitness level, as the trail includes steep uphill sections and reaches altitudes above 3,580 meters, where mild altitude effects can occur.
Mardi Viewpoint and Base Camp
The following morning, most trekkers depart early from High Camp to reach Mardi Viewpoint (4,200 meters). The ascent generally requires approximately 1.5 hours, while the return to High Camp typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on pace and trail conditions. Some hikers proceed an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 meters). Both the viewpoint and the base camp offer extensive mountain scenery, including Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Himchuli (6,441 m), as well as several other prominent peaks in the Annapurna range.
 Who Is This Trek for
The Mardi Himal Trek is suitable for individuals of all ages. It is particularly recommended for beginners who prefer a less demanding trek than the Everest Base Camp Trek, the Annapurna Circuit, the Manaslu Circuit, or the Three Passes Trek in the Everest region. Despite its shorter duration, the trek provides access to notable landscapes and offers views of trails that connect to established routes such as the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
Trail and Nature
The trail consists of steady uphill climbs, gentle flat sections, and additional ascents, particularly near High Camp. A significant portion of the trek passes through rhododendron forests, which are especially vibrant during the spring flowering season. In summary, the Mardi Himal Trek offers a short duration, moderate walking, and extensive Himalayan views, making it a notable trek in the Annapurna region.
